During the hottest days of summer, sometimes it feels like nothing you do helps you cool down. We’ve all been there. Those are the days you linger just a little longer every time you open the freezer and you stand in front of a fan set to “gale force winds” with a cold rag around your neck. Some days you just need something ice cold to stave off the heat. That’s where kombucha comes in. Of course, kombucha is delicious right out of the fridge or poured over a mountain of ice cubes in a tall glass, but it’s also really versatile as an ingredient in other sweet treats. Kombucha is an excellent liquid to use in smoothies and shakes, it can be spun into sorbet or turned into granita, and poured over ice cream to make a mean float! Stock the fridge with several different flavors of kombucha and do some experimenting to find flavor combinations you love. Use the recipes below for guidance, or follow them to the letter. Either way, it’s a delightful strategy for cooling off.

Try riffing on the recipes above using some of your favorite flavors. For example, if you like berry smoothies better than tropical fruit smoothies, try substituting 1 cup frozen blueberries, blackberries, or raspberries for the frozen mango and Brew Dr. Kombucha Superberry for the Mango Habañero. Or in the granita, try using Brew Dr. Kombucha Herbal Uplift instead of Mint Lemonade. The recipes are designed to be simple enough that you can swap in your favorite kombucha flavors for the ones listed. Or you might become a kombucha mad scientist and discover your own way of using kombucha in an icy cold summertime treat.
