Yes, please! Brew Dr. Kombucha must be kept in the fridge.
Our kombucha is unpasteurized (aka "raw"), meaning it is live and active and must be stored cold to maintain freshness and consistency.
If unrefrigerated, raw kombucha will continue to ferment in the bottle or can. This can create more carbonation, and in extreme cases, the bottle or can may burst.
Continued fermentation will also affect the overall taste and quality. We try REEEEAALLY HARD to make our kombucha perfect for you. Please handle with care and refrigerate your kombucha to maintain that deliciousness!
No, it's important that you store your kombucha in the refrigerator — Under 40°F is ideal.
That’s a little too cold. Storing at freezing temperatures will freeze the liquid and the container will likely burst due to the expansion of liquid as it freezes. Science!
If your bottle or can spends less than 48 hours at room temperature, it will still be perfectly fine to chill and enjoy. Leave it out any longer than that, and it may become fizzier and taste different.
Kombucha doesn't "go bad" like spoiled milk or produce, but it will be an inconsistent liquid that we can't guarantee is what you intended to purchase. We therefore ask that you do not drink our kombucha if it has been left out of refrigeration beyond 48 hours.
Additionally, unrefrigerated bottles and cans may burst due to overfermentation, which can be dangerous and messy — We don't want that. See question #2 for more.
Feel free to take Brew Dr. on your picnic, hike, or pack it in your lunch. For the best sipping experience, we recommend including an ice pack or chilling before enjoying. Like any tasty and refreshing beverage, it's so much better cold!
Fridge, please! Just like our bottled kombucha, it is raw and unpasteurized regardless of package type, so it must be kept cold.
Our Uplift yerba mate products are an exception! Uplift is not kombucha. It is shelf stable tea beverages (yerba mate to be exact) and does not need to be refrigerated. For best taste, we still recommend chilling before enjoying, of course!
Pasteurization! The finished cans are heated to a temperature that kills yeast and bacteria. Only our Uplift product line is pasteurized. Our kombucha is always raw, live and active.
